Luncheon with Ustaz - End of Semester

This morning I drove to UIA Gombak only after hubby left for our farm in Pedas. Thus, I arrived at 8am sharp and, have to wait for my turn to read the Noble Quran at Tahsin Class. I was the second last student to read, so I waited for my classmate to finish her turn and both of us left after Ustaz Zul recited dua for us.

Then I rushed to Tafseer class, but I was already five minutes late. So sorry Ustaz Abdullah.

When class finally ended, two of my classmates came along with me for our end of semester luncheon at Restaurant Taj Hadramawt Taman Melati.

Our new semester will begin after Eid Mubarak, In shaa Allah.

I arrived home safely, did my laundry and took a nap. 😁😁😁

Then, after Asar, I drove to Pedas to Dusun Liza.  I arrived safely and hubby welcomed me but he had to go to the Masjid for solat Maghrib and will return after solat Eshaq.

We then had dinner at Chembong Food Court. Alhamdulillah.

Lunch with Ustaz - End of Semester (Part One)

My classmates and I had our End of Semester lunch with our dear Ustaz Abdullah Bukhari Abdul Rahim at Leha Kelfood Taman Melati. There were plenty of dishes to choose from. I had nasi kerabu with Ikan Kembong Bakar. Yummy......

In shaa Allah till we meet again next semester in January 2017, I will miss all of you.

But then, I may not be registering next semester because I have to attend Hajj course from 10th December until late April 2017 In shaa Allah.

Bell's Palsy - Day 20

This morning I fetched my classmate, Hjh Masuriah at the train station. Hjh Masuriah travelled from Seremban by KTM commuter because her children did not allow her to drive anymore.

When we reached UIA it was already 9.30am. However I managed to attend Tahsin class before Tafsir class began. Alhamdullillah.

After classes at UIA I drove to Tung Shin Hospital for my second acupuncture treatment. I arrived at 12.40pm. I thought I have to wait for the afternoon session, but the clerk at the registration counter assured me that I could still see Dr Cheow Mei Li before 1pm. Alhamdullillah.

Dr Cheow welcomed me again. She is so cheerful. I like her. When I asked her whether she could treat my right knee together with Bell's Palsy, she said "Sure can. Just let me know where your problem area is." Alhamdullillah.

The whole acupuncture session lasted twenty minutes. Then when the nurse came to remove the needles I requested whether she could take a picture of my face. She obliged. ☺

I drove home, this time taking the Sungai Besi route via Smart Tunnel.  Alhamdullillah I reached home in just fifteen minutes.

My Bff Salmah Awang

This morning I rushed to Tafsir class at UIA. This was the second class I attended for this new Semester.  Our classroom is now at CELPAD just across the UIA Masjid.

I left the house at 7.45am and traffic was smooth until I reached near Taman Melawati. That was where the jam began all the way to Gombak toll.  When I finally reached UIA it was already 8.45am.  So I decided not to go for Tahsin class. I did not want to be late for my Tafsir class which began at 9am and my Tafsir Ustaz is always early.

But then when I was parking my car I met my classmate and she told me our Tafsir Ustaz had a minor accident and will be a little late.  So I went for my Tahsin class first.

Tahsin class is on level 4.  Its in the audio lab. My Tahsin ustaz noticed I did not look well. In fact I could not finish an ayah in one breath like I usually do.

After Tahsin I returned to Tafsir class.  Ustaz was already present.  I sat next to my long time classmate Hjh Normaini.  We met when we both attended Tajweed and Tharannum classes at UIA Nilai.

After class I drove back home via MRR2. The Gombak toll was packed with drivers travelling east.  OMG as I drove home I noticed the jam to Gombak toll began as far as Cheras Tesco. Balik kampong for Eid Adha Mubarak which is Monday.

When I reached home Sofiyah was having her brunch. She cooked sausage with scrambled eggs. Good girl.

After solat Zohor we packed our luggage and groceries and drove to Pedas via LEKAS. Then my mobile rang and it was Salmah. My bff from Singapore.  She had passed Air Keroh Melaka and In shaa Allah will meet me at Senawang toll in an hour.

When I reached Senawang Toll, Salmah and her hubby were already waiting for me.  I offered my apologies and gave Salmah a big hug.  They will spend their weekend at Subang Dorsett Hotel.

Salmah then gave me the Spore Curry Puff which she bought for me.  Thank you very much bff.

Then after meeting Salmah I drove to Siti Hawa's abode to pay her the delivery service for my niece's twentieth birthday.  Adha's birthday is also on 10th Zulhijjah like me. Alhamdullillah.

Sofiyah and I finally reached Rumah Liza around 5.30pm. Alhamdullillah.

Lunch @ Taj Hydramawt Tmn Melati

I drove to UIA Gombak after I cooked fried mee hoon for breakfast for hubby and our children.  They were all still sleeping very soundly when I left our abode.

I could not find my Touch n Go card which I left in my Mercs.  So when I reached the Bt 10 Cheras Toll Plaza I wanted to pay cash. But the toll plaza cashier asked me for my IC and RM5.  He then swiped my IC and I then use it to pass through the toll.  Hmmmm...I did not know this method though.

Anyway.....the journey via MRR2 was smooth, yet I was twenty minutes late.... I was unaware that class started at half past eight.

After class ended at half past eleven, I drove to Taman Melati with my classmate who showed me the way to Restaurant Taj Hydramawt.  This was the venue for our farewell lunch this semester.

Ustaz Abdullah Bukhari with his wife and three daughters joined us for lunch at this restaurant.  Alhamdullillah, the Arabian dishes were very delicious.  Would love to bring my family here for makaning some day.

In shaa Allah hope to meet all my classmates next semester in July i.e. after Eid Mubarak.

WHY RECITE SURAT AL-KAHF EVERY FRIDAY?

Ever wondered why Prophet Muhammad(SAW) asked us to recite Surat Al-Kahf every Friday?

Let’s find out today inshaAllah…

This Surah has Four stories in it,having some morals, lets see them and understand what they are saying to us:

The People of Cave
The Companion of Two Gardens
Musa and Khidr
Dhul Qurnayn

It may seem that none of these stories are related to one another, but we see that the maqsad (purpose/theme) of all these stories are one: Fitnah.

This surah explains Fitnah in different aspects of life.

Fitnah of Religion (Story of the People of the Cave)
Fitnah of Wealth (Story of the Man with Two Gardens)
Fitnah of Knowledge (Story of Musa and Khidr)
Fitnah of Power (Dhul Qarnain)

Each of these stories outline how each of these 4 things can bring us fitnah. It also outlines how the believer should approach these trials and tribulations.

Fitnah of Religion: The way to deal with this is mentioned in an ayaah after the story:

“And keep yourself patiently with those who call on their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His Face, and let not your eyes overlook them, desiring the pomp and glitter of the life of the world; and obey not him whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, one who follows his own lusts and whose affair (deeds) has been lost.” (Surah Kahf: 28)

Fitnah of Wealth: The way to deal with this is mentioned here:

“Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. But the good righteous deeds that last, are better with your Lord for rewards and better in respect of hope.” (Surah Kahf: 46)

Fitnah of Knowledge:

Musa A.S. thought he was the most knowledgeable person on the earth and so Allah revealed to him that there is someone who knows more. After traveling with this man (Khidr), He could not be patient of the things he would do, and did not see the wisdom. The way to deal with this fitnah is to remain humble and not to let your knowledge delude you.

“If Allah will, you will find me patient, and I will not disobey you in aught.” (Surah Kahf: 64)

Fitnah of Power:

Dhul Qarnayn was given a vast kingdom stretching from the east to the west. But yet he was still sincere to Allah and did not let this power delude him, and he helped the people of the city which were fearful of Ya’juj and ma’juj. So the way to deal with the Fitnah of power is to have sincerity in your deeds to Allah, as it was mentioned in this ayaah:

“Say: ‘Shall We tell you the greatest losers in respect of (their) deeds? Those whose efforts have been wasted in this life while they thought that they were acquiring good by their deeds!’” (Surah Kahf: 103-14)

Ending of the Surah:

This Surah ends with the most perfect way to deal with all types of fitnah, and that is to remember the hereafter.

“So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord.” (Surah Kahf: 110)

THE PASSING OF SHEIKH MUHAMMAD AYYOUB

The Passing of Sheikh Muhammad Ayyoub

It was at Fajr time this morning I received the sad news about the passing of our beloved Sheikh Muhammad Ayyoub, rahimahullahu ta'aala from his son in Madinah. He was a man whose life was in service to the Book of Allah and its teaching from his earliest days right through to his final moments before returning to his Lord. Born in Makkah in 1952, the son of a poor Burmese migrant, his family had fled oppression against Muslims in their native Burma. His childhood was difficult. The eldest of his siblings, he had to work to provide for his family (as his father was imprisoned at the time in Burma) while at the same time attending his daily hifdh classes in Makkah. At the time, there were very few developed roads and none of the tunnels through mountains we see today and so the Sheikh mentions in a rare interview that his daily journey on foot to the masjid where he studied involved the ascending and descending of two steep hills between which were wild dogs and other desert creatures. A testament to his dedication from a young age in this era of Skype classes from the comfort of our bedrooms.

As he grew older, he showed a great aptitude for the recitation of the Qur'an, impressing his teacher Sheikh Khaleelur Rahman, who held him to a rigorous high standard and who he accompanied wherever he went, practising and perfecting his recitation.

In the year 1410h (1990) the Sheikh had just been given the position of Imam in Masjid Quba. The head imam of Masjid Nabawi at the time, Sheikh Abdul Aziz As-Salih was informed of a new imam by the name of Muhammad Ayyoub in Masjid Quba who was known for his beautiful voice and excellent skill in recitation. Sheikh Abdul Aziz towards the end of Sha'ban (just before the start of Ramadan that year) summoned Muhammad Ayyoub to a gathering. Towards the end he called him to sit next to him in front of everyone and asked him to recite. The Sheikh, unsure of what exactly was happening proceeded to recite, something that was as natural to him as breathing, wowing everyone in the gathering. Sheikh Abdul Aziz who was taken aback immediately said to him (with only a few days notice before the start of Ramadan) "You will be leading taraweeh in the Masjid of the Messenger of Allah, salAllahu 'alayhi wasallam". Dazed and unable to believe what had just happened, he prepared himself for the great moment.

He says about his first night in the mihrab of the Prophet (salAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam's) masjid, "My heart was racing and my ears were buzzing. My hands were shaking uncontrollably from the greatness of where I stood and in remembrance of those who stood here before me. I sought refuge with Allah and proceeded." He also said, "Every single time I stood at the mihrab of the Messenger of Allah, salAllahu 'alayhi wasallam, I was filled with intense awe and a deep fear. A fear that I would not be able to do justice to this great position nor fulfil this heavy responsibility on my shoulders."

In his first year as Imam, he led all 20 rak'ahs of taraweeh alone for the entirety of Ramadan apart from three days. A feat matched only by one other imam of the Haram, Sheikh 'Ali Jabir in Masjid Haram (who was a close friend of his and over whom he led the janaza). His teacher Sheikh Khaleelur Rahman was away when Sheikh Muhammad Ayyoub was appointed and only found out when he heard his student on the live radio broadcast from Masjid Nabawi. He would then call him everyday, pray for him and remind him of the importance of sincerity.

The Sheikh would continue to lead taraweeh and tahajjud in the Haram till 1417 after which he was removed. He spent a few years leading at Masjid Quba and various other masaajid. He would continue on to teach tafseer at the Islamic University right up until his retirement in 2014. The Sheikh travelled extensively delivering lectures and study programs on Arabic Language, Qur'an, 'aqeedah and fiqh in places such as Pakistan, Malaysia, India, Senegal and Turkey. Green Lane Masjid in Birmingham hosted him in the 90s.

After his retirement the Sheikh took on a handful of dedicated huffadh who he would listen to in order to give them ijaaza, daily in Masjid Nabawi right up until he passed away. Despite his ill health, he did this daily and would never fail to show up, often listening to 4 students simultaneously while stopping and correcting each one, something I witnessed personally. He would then head back to his Masjid where he lead 'Isha and Fajr everyday.

He holds a very unique position in the world of Qur'an reciters, respected widely by Qurraa from all backgrounds and nationalities. He had a massive impact on reciters in Saudi Arabia in general, being a master of the hijazi style which by his aptitude and position at Masjid Nabawi, became very popular. Mishary Rashid in a recent show he did on biographies of modern day Qurra, said about the Sheikh, "He was the Mustafa Ismail of the Arabian Peninsula, in that he was far more influential in shaping the recitation of many reciters and imams of masaajid in that region than anyone else." Today he is widely imitated even in the Haramain with imams such as Abdullah Johani, Bandar Baleela, Ahmad Talib Hameed and Khalid AlGhamidi in both Makkah and Madinah demonstrating being deeply influenced by him as they studied the Qur'an themselves.

He maintained a sadness that remained with him after no longer being appointed to lead at Masjid Nabawi in 1417h. The Sheikh mentioned in am interview, when asked about his wishes for the future, that he hoped he be given the opportunity to lead in the Prophet salAllahu 'alayhi wasallam's masjid one last time before he returns to Allah. His duas were answered as he was appointed one last time to lead taraweeh in the final Ramadan of his life in 1436h (2015) before returning to His Lord at Fajr 9th Rajab 1437h (16th April 2016).

I was blessed to meet the Sheikh a number of times including praying behind him in Ramadan 2015 and again just two weeks ago before his passing, in Masjid Nabawi as he sat and listened to his students. His final words to me were,

"The Arabic language is not difficult. Had it been as such, we would not have been able to memorise and learn the Book of Allah as it has been today from east to west."

The Janazah will be today 16th April 2016 after Dhuhr in Masjid Nabawi. The Sheikh I believe has 13 children, 5 of them men and 8 of the women. The men are all huffadh and accomplished within their fields and a handful of the women are huffadh, some still memorising and also well studied in their respective fields.

May Allah raise him in rank in the Hereafter and allow the Book to which he dedicated his life to intercede for him in the grave and on Qiyamah. May Allah join him with the Messenger of Allah salAllahu 'alayhi wasallam, Abu Bakr (ra), 'Umar (ra), 'Uthman (ra), 'Ali (ra) and all those of the righteous whom he shared the imamate of that blessed masjid with throughout history, in the Aakhirah. Ameen.

I will post a link the comments below from where many of the Sheikh's taraweeh recitations can be downloaded. Please pass this link on so that we can share in some sadaqah jariyah for him.

Tafsir Class with Ustaz Sheikh Zoubir

After sending hubby to KPJ for his physiotherapy session I drove home to fetch kak Zahridah.  But then when I saw neighbours Hjh Rafisah, Hjh Noorazmi and Kak Maznah chatting beneath the cashew nut tree, I joined them briefly.

They were talking about kak Maznah's unfortunate accident when she fell into the drain and injured her legs and then slipped and fell in her abode and injured her shoulder.  So she too had to go for physio at KK Kajang.  I pray she get well soon. Amiinn.

Then when I saw Kak Zahridah coming to join us, I waited for her to chat briefly with the ladies before we excused ourselves since we have to attend Tafsir class at 10am.

Alhamdullillah we reached Puan Salmah's abode and were greeted warmly when she opened the door.  I brought epok-epok which I fried this morning to add to the pot-luck served after class.

My sister-in-law Kak Tina also join this class, Alhamdullillah. Then when Sheikh Zoubir finally arrived and began his lecture, he received my full attention. Alhamdullillah.

First lesson covered today was Surah Al-Qasas from Verses One to Seven.  I would like to thank Puan Salmah Mohd Yunus Zyllwyn-stewart (our hostess) for allowing me to copy and paste her notes via our watsapp group:

Lessons from today's class - verses 1-7 Surah Al-Qasas :
- the verses are clear guidance for mankind
- leaders who oppressed their people will end up having the oppressed as their leaders
- Allah will show the leaders things they fear most
- verse 7 is clear proof that the Quran comes from Allah because in just one sentence Allah was giving Musa's mother :
   - 2 news ( Allah will bring Musa back to his mother and Allah will make him Messenger)
    - 2 commands ( To breastfeed Musa and to let him go )
    -  2 prohibitions ( Dont be afraid and dont be sad).

Rendang Ayam

I had to miss Sunday Zumba today because I had to attend Tafsir Class at UIA.  I was five minutes late. So sorry Ustaz.

After class, the journey home was smooth and I reached home half an hour later.

Today is my first grandson's third birthday. I missed him so much.  So I decided to cook Chicken Rendang to celebrate his birthday.

New Semester Kelas Tafsir

This morning on my way to UIA Gombak I went to DePalma Hotel at Ampang  Point and delivered a bottle of the Jeruk Belimbing Buluh to Datin Noraini.  But she was at her official residence at Shah Alam when I called. So Datin Aini requested that I leave the Jeruk at the hotel's reception counter since I could not wait for her arrival.

When I reached UIA the parking lots at Kulliyah Engineering were deserted except for a few cars.  I arrived early perhaps.

Anyway when I walked towards my classroom I could hear voices chattering mixed with joyous laughter as I turned the corner.  There they were my classmates waiting for our Ustaz Abdullah Bukhari Abdul Rahim infront of the classroom.

When they saw me, they were surprised at first.  Then we started to salam and gave one another a hug.  I sure miss then a lot.

Classes began at 9am and ended at 11am.  Alhamdullillah.

Farewell Lunch with Ustaz

This morning I drove to Maytower to meet my tenant who informed me via whatsapp last night that she could not use the stove because there was no gas.

I asked her whether she had paid the gas bill.  She said she already did.  So when I reached her unit I checked the stove where she had changed the old cell battery for a new one.

I then called Gas Malaysia and they told us that we have to check with the building management because they, the building management have to replace a faulty valve as directed by Gas Malaysia maintenance team. It has been five days and nothing done todate.

So I told my tenant to purchase a single electric stove and deduct the amount from next month's rent while waiting for the gas problem be rectified.

Then I drove to KLeha Kelfood restaurant at Taman Melati beside MRR2 for lunch with my Ustaz Abdullah Bukhari Abdul Rahim, his family and my classmates.  This was our end of semester lunch.  In shaa Allah I hope to be able to attend classes next semester.

Thank you Hajah Haslinda Hariri for the group photo.

Tafsir class at Masjid Ibnu Sina

If last week I could not attend Tafsir class at Masjid Ibnu Sina, today I went with my close neighbour Hajah Zaitun, who I fondly call kak Tun.

We left Kajang at 8.45am thinking we could reach class before 10am.  Boy oh boy...traffic was so bad from Taman Cuepacs to KL that when we reached Masjid Ibnu Sina it was 10.15am.

I was quite embarassed when Ustaz Abdullah Bukhari greeted me when I came into class.  So sorry ustaz....for coming in late.  Alamak....I had to seat right infront of the class since kak Tun had already taken the 5th row seat.

After class we drove to Bangi and had lunch at Restoren Nasi Bryani Johor.

New Semester @IIUM September 2013

Tomorrow I will be attending Tafsir and Tahsin classes at International Islamic university Malaysia, In shaa Allah.

Tomorrow, again, I will be using public transport to get to the university, since my car is still in the workshop.

Last Saturday, 14th september, when I attended classes for the first time after the semester break, I had to use public transport.  My son, Khairulzaman, sent me to the KTM commuter station at 7.30am.  Instead of purchasing a return ticket, I use my touch n go card.

I got off at Kl central and continued my journey by boarding Rapid until its final destination ar Gombak KTM station.  Since I missed the feeder bus to IIUM, I took a taxi straight to the Engineering faculty where my classes were.  I was forty minutes late!

Thus, in order not to be late again, I need to leave the house really really early.....by 7am!!

BTW I was wearing my NIKE running shoes, since I had to do a lot of walking and climbing stairs.... I usually avoid using the escalator at KL Central.  Use stairs more healthy....

Anyway, after classes, my classmate offered to give me a lift to KL Railway Station. I was so grateful...

I boarded the KTM commuter train at the railway station and got off at Mid valley megamall.  I had to collect my Evita Peroni stretchies which I sent for repair three months ago...

I finally reached home at 3pm last Saturday.  Khairulzaman fetched me at the commuter station that day. Thank you dear son.
