Baha, our farmhand at our livestock farm is an expert tree climber. He could climb all fruit trees in our orchard i.e. Rambutans.....Cikus....Mangosteen....Mangoes...Coconuts....Petais and also the infamous Jereng.
We have two jereng trees at Rumah Liza. So....since it is now Jereng season....Baha managed to climb and brought down buckets of young jerengs. Young jerengs are softer and easy to bite when eaten as ulam.
Old jerengs are tougher to eat since the seed had harden. So....the best way to eat old jereng aka jereng tuo....is to cook it. You either fry it with dried ikan bilis and sambal or boil it until cooked and then smash it with a lesong batu head and eat the smashed jereng with grated young coconut mix with salt to taste. Yummy yummy yum yum!!
But then.....the scent even after you flushed the toilet....remains....hahahaa.... same with petais and kerdas...
