Belated birthdays....

Two of my children were born in September. My second child, Ayeshah (21st September 1985), and my fourth child, Khairulzaman (25th September 1990). For this year, they had to share their birthday cake....seven days later for Ayeshah and three days later for Khairulzaman. Happy belated birthdays to my dear children. Umi loves you both very much.

New Semester @IIUM September 2013

Tomorrow I will be attending Tafsir and Tahsin classes at International Islamic university Malaysia, In shaa Allah.

Tomorrow, again, I will be using public transport to get to the university, since my car is still in the workshop.

Last Saturday, 14th september, when I attended classes for the first time after the semester break, I had to use public transport.  My son, Khairulzaman, sent me to the KTM commuter station at 7.30am.  Instead of purchasing a return ticket, I use my touch n go card.

I got off at Kl central and continued my journey by boarding Rapid until its final destination ar Gombak KTM station.  Since I missed the feeder bus to IIUM, I took a taxi straight to the Engineering faculty where my classes were.  I was forty minutes late!

Thus, in order not to be late again, I need to leave the house really really early.....by 7am!!

BTW I was wearing my NIKE running shoes, since I had to do a lot of walking and climbing stairs.... I usually avoid using the escalator at KL Central.  Use stairs more healthy....

Anyway, after classes, my classmate offered to give me a lift to KL Railway Station. I was so grateful...

I boarded the KTM commuter train at the railway station and got off at Mid valley megamall.  I had to collect my Evita Peroni stretchies which I sent for repair three months ago...

I finally reached home at 3pm last Saturday.  Khairulzaman fetched me at the commuter station that day. Thank you dear son.

Jeruk Petai (pickled stink beans (parkia speciosa)

(blanch the petai in boiling water)

(leave the petai seeds in the bottle filled with water and salt)

One of my favourite ulams is petai.  When eaten raw, you need to eat the skin too, not just the seed.  Then only it is effective when you want to get rid of the stones in the gall bladder.  That was what my mother use to say whenever anyone mentioned that they have gall stones... One of them was my relative from Singapore.  He visited my mother when he was vacationing here in Malaysia, and told her that he has stones...."Kak Yah, Acit ada batu lah kak yah...susah nak buang air kecil".  Since abang Acit does not like petai at all, my mother cooked a dish, gulai pucuk ubi tempoyak, and include the petai which she sliced thinly.  Unknowingly, abang Acit ate the gulai tempoyak, petai and all..... The next morning, he told my mother, "Kak Yah, batu dah keluar lah, tapi busuk lah air kencing Acit".  Then my mother told him about adding the petai in the dish, and abang Acit continue eating petai from then on.

When my hubby returned from Perak yesterday, he bought a few bunches of petai.  Since the petai has large seeds, I told hubby, let's make petai jeruk.  So, I boiled water in a large 'periuk' and blanched the petai for a few seconds.  Then, I removed the seeds by squeezing the petai skin.  I then put the seeds in a large bottle, filled it with water (cooled warm water) and add salt.
I will then leave the bottle at room temperature for about a week.

When the petai becomes pickled, it can be eaten with rice, but first, put the pickled petai in a bowl with the petai water, add sliced shallots and birds eye chillis too.  My hubby love to sip the petai water....But, as for me, I only love to eat the pickled petai....

Pickled petai when cooked with ikan masak lemak cili api, it is so.....delicious.  Eat with rice and sambal belacan too..... Mother-in-law walk past also you don't see one....(Malay proverb)

KECANTIKAN MANUSIA HANYALAH SEBUAH KANVAS YANG MEMILIKI PELUKISNYA..

KECANTIKAN MANUSIA HANYALAH SEBUAH KANVAS YANG MEMILIKI PELUKISNYA..

Pihak media suka menghebohkan skandal orang ternama yang tergelincir melakukan dosa melibatkan gender berbeza. Benarlah sabda nabi SAW:

A flower called 'naughty boy'

I do not know the name of these flowers. I saw at Fraser's Hill, but I do remember my florist calling it 'naughty boys'....

Hibiscus at Fraser's Hill

I was still asleep when hubby went for his morning jog at Fraser's Hill. So, when I woke up, I took the road to the Paddock, hoping to meet him there. Alas, he was nowhere to be found. So, I continued walking uphill till I reached a junction. That was quite a climb... Not knowing whether to take the left or the right road, I turned back.  Going downhill was easy....but it was drizzling...
Then I saw these lovely hibiscus flowers blooming by the roadside.  Hibiscus is our National Flower.  When I reached Shahzan Inn, hubby was waiting for me at the lobby.  So, we then had our lunch at the food court beside the mosque.  Alhamdullilah.
